Kyushu National Museum
Kyushu National Museum collects, preserves, manages and displays cultural properties, while also conducting research and providing educational programs. The focus is on cultural properties related to Japan’s cultural exchanges with other Asian regions.
A Message from the Executive Director
Kyushu National Museum was established in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture in 2005 as Japan’s fourth national museum after Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto respectively.
Our programming is based on the understanding that the formation of Japanese culture is closely intertwined with its interactions with Asia. As such, our permanent exhibition focuses on cultural properties that reflect this relationship between Japan and the world. We also host special exhibitions and feature exhibitions covering a diverse range of topics relating to Japan, as well as other world cultures.
In addition, we strive to build a lively cultural space in which young and old visitors alike can engage with history outside of our exhibition halls. To this end, we provide our local communities with educational outreach activities designed to be more engaging than conventional teaching methods, and easier to understand than a textbook.
We thank you for your support as we continue working towards becoming an even more enjoyable, engaging, and accessible museum for all our visitors.
