The Museum of the Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan, was established within the Imperial Palace grounds in 1993. We preserve, research, and display a collection of artworks that had been passed down in the Imperial Family for centuries. In the autumn of 2023, the Museum reopened with new storage and exhibition spaces, while its administration was transferred from the Imperial Household Agency to the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage. The expansion of the Museum continues, and a full reopening is planned for 2026.
The Museum’s collection spans a broad range of time periods, regions, and diverse genres, including many iconic, celebrated works from Japan and beyond. Your donation helps the Museum care for invaluable cultural heritage that have been preserved as part of the Imperial Family’s long history for future generations. Contributions will go towards conservation, research, exhibitions, and outreach programs to make the collection more accessible to visitors from across the world. We are truly grateful for your support.
