Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties
Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, in the implementation of its role of supporting the work of the government in the administration of cultural properties, conducts fundamental, systematic, up-to-date and practical research on all types of cultural properties, both tangible and intangible.
A Message from the Director General
Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties researches Japan’s cultural properties using a variety of basic, advanced and practical methods, with the results of this research actively publicized and utilized. It also strives to fulfil its role as a center for international cooperation by running international research exchange programs aimed at conserving global cultural properties. The Institute seeks to employ lessons learnt from recent disasters by gathering techniques, knowledge and other information related to salvaging disaster-stricken cultural properties. It also conducts research into methods to preserve cultural properties, with a focus on prevention and damage reduction, and it simultaneously compiles records of intangible cultural properties that contribute to restoration efforts.
We hope to further our research into cultural properties with donations from the general public. We look forward to receiving your warm support and cooperation.
